Metals Remediation

Metals remediation seeks to immobilize the targeted contaminant through changing its valance state to an insoluble form.  Metals such as arsenic, barium, cadmium, chromium, and lead are examples of metals that are of interest for human health and environmental reasons.  Traditional chemical application methods such as injection and soil mixing are viable approaches for metals treatment.

Divalent metals such as lead form insoluble compounds with phosphates, sulfates, and carbonates.  Depending on the contaminant concentration, the amount and form of, anion stabilization chemistry can be adjusted to meet regulatory guidelines such as TCLP, and SPLP.

Adsorption of metals on active iron sites has been shown to reduce concentrations of divalent and metalloids (e.g., arsenic and selenium) in soils and groundwater.  With adsorption, controlling the oxidation state of metalloids is critical to limiting mobility in the environment. ORIN has experience in a variety of metals treatment chemistries and target metals.
